Hyperbaric Workshop Chamber Dive
We look forward to welcoming you all to the Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine at the Royal Hobart Hospital when you attend the Hyperbaric Workshop on Day 2 of the Humans in Space course (Tuesday 25th August 2026). There may be an opportunity for you to undertake a training ‘dive’, to 10 metres, in our hyperbaric chamber during the workshop.
Your safety is of upmost importance to us, so for those who would like to take up the opportunity, could you please review the attached forms. The information sheet gives an overview of the training dive, including associated risks and how to reduce same. Particularly note in the information sheet, the list of items NOT allowed in the hyperbaric chamber, including electronic items, hair gels and make up. We will provide you with cotton scrubs to change into for the dive.
If you would like to participate in the chamber dive, please complete the RHH DDHM Dive Medical Examination Form Questionnaire and return it on the morning of the first day of the course (Monday 24th August 2026) or email a digital copy to me directly at: alicia.tucker@ths.tas.gov.au. You do not need a full dive medical for this training dive, however it is important that you are honest with your questionnaire answers. For some individuals who may have possible contraindications for underwater compressed air diving, you may still be able to undertake the chamber dive.
Only those who are deemed ‘dive fit’ at the time of the workshop will be able to undertake the training dive. The attending Dive Physician has the right to assess and declare any candidate as ‘unfit’ to undertake the training dive.
The consent and indemnity form will be signed prior to undertaking the dive and will be available in hard copy at the time. You do not need to print/complete the consent prior.
In addition, there is no obligation to undertake the training dive, candidates will still be able to view inside the chamber to observe any physics principles being demonstrated.
Kind Regards
Dr Alicia Tucker
